Cosmogenic isotope chronology of glaciation in the southern North Cascade Range
September 20-21, 1997
The 1997 field excursion will be led by Terry Swanson and Steve Porter. Saturday's trip
will feature sites on Whidbey Island where material was obtained for calibration of 36Cl
production rates. Sunday's trip will be to the Yakima drainage where new cosmogenic
isotope dates on full- and late glacial moraines were recently obtained. Potential
problems associated with using cosmogenic isotopes for dating moraines will be discussed.
Contact: Terry Swanson (tswanson@u.washington.edu) or Steve Porter (scporter@u.washington.
edu), Quaternary Research Center, Box 351360, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
98195-1360; 206-543-1166; fax:-3836. A web site with additional information will soon be
available through the QRC homepage (www. weber.u.washington.edu/~qrc/).
