I want to encourage all members of AMQUA to attend the 1998 Biennial Meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico over the Labor Day weekend. This is the first AMQUA meeting "south of the border" and only our third outside of the U.S. Our Mexican compadres have selected a beautiful venue and have put together an outstanding and unique array of field trips. The program itself is up to the usual high standards of AMQUA, looking at connections between the hemispheres. The venue, the field trips, and the program make this particular conference an excellent place to establish or further ties between AMQUA members in the U.S. and Canada and our counterparts in Mexico, who are involved in a wide variety of Quaternary research topics. See you on the beach! Vance Holliday AMQUA President 15th AMQUA Biennial Meeting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico September 5-7, 1998The 15th Biennial AMQUA Meeting will take place September 5-7, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, hosted by Union Mexicana para Estudios del Cuaternario and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The site of the meeting will be the Hotel Krystal Vallarta, which is offering very reasonable rates for meeting participants. Theme Rationale Format Registration Deadlines AMQUA announces the availability of competitive travel support for students to attend the 1998 biennial meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Travel awards are being offered on a competitive basis to bona fide students who are AMQUA members (still only $4.00/year to join). Reimbursement will be for actual travel costs up to a maximum of $400/student. The awards will be given to 20 students judged on the basis of abstracts submitted for poster presentations. Abstracts will be judged by a committee appointed by the AMQUA President. Travel funds will be distributed to award winners by check after the
meeting, so please keep all travel receipts. Electronic Version of 1998 AMQUA Abstracts A preliminary version of invited speakers' abstracts, plus the program, will be posted to the AMQUA web site prior to the meeting. A final, complete version incorporating the program, invited abstracts, and contributed abstracts, will be produced following the meeting. The document will be available for viewing and downloading on the AMQUA web site. Authors will receive an electronic version of their individual contribution, which they can distribute as a digital reprint. Authors can contribute written follow-up comments to their abstracts based on meeting discussions. Such comments will be added as digital post-it type notes to each paper. Authors may link their abstracts (via their name) to their personal or institutional web page, including electronic versions of their poster presentations. Illustrations and tables will be linked to the reference in the text, allowing quick navigation. All authors are asked to send an electronic version of their formatted abstract, including figures and web addresses for links, to John Matthews. The preferred method of delivery is an attachment as an e-mail file to: ohana@sympatico.ca Alternatively, mail a diskette to: Ohana Productions, 23 Sherry Lane, Nepean, Ontario, K2G 3L4 Canada. Text should be in either Word or WordPerfect format (either Mac or PC); graphics produced on a PC should be in Corel Draw (saved as version 5) or any of the Mac graphics formats. Deadline for receipt of files is September 21st, 1998 (two weeks following the meeting). Abstracts not sent electronically will be scanned from the printed version. For an example of a pdf version of an abstract volume, visit the AMQUA web page (http://vishnu.glg.nau.edu/amqua/) and select "Quaternary Related Abstracts" to view or download the pdf file for the recently held Paleoclimates of Beringia Workshop. |
