AMQUA Biennial Meeting a Great Success

The 15th Biennial Meeting was held at the Hotel Krystal in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, September 5-7, 1998, hosted by Universidad Nacional AutŪnoma de MČxico and UniŪn Mexicana para Estudios del Cuaternario. The theme, highly appropriate for the venue, was "Northern Hemisphere-Southern Hemisphere Interconnections." The meeting was a great success both scientifically and socially. The invited papers focussed on atmospheric and oceanic interconnections, geological and lacustrine interconnections, archeological interconnections, and biological interconnections. Especially educational for more northern North Americans was a half-day session on Quaternary paleoenvironments of Mexico. The Local Organizing Committee from UNAM (Socorro Lozano Garcia, Jaime Urrutia Fucugauchi, and Margarita Caballero Miranda) superbly organized the meeting. Participants enjoyed the beautifully landscaped grounds and beaches of the Hotel Krystal and during the evenings enjoyed outstanding Mexican cuisine in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
