Glacier Studies by the
U.S. Geological Survey
The Eastern Region Climate History / Hazards Team has assembled a web site to disseminate information on a variety of topics, including glacier studies: http://chht-ntsrv.er.usgs.gov/ Recent (1998) publications linked to the site include:

  • The Glaciers of South America, Satellite Image Atlas of Glaciers of the World Volume I: USGS Professional Paper 13861 edited by R.S. Williams, Jr., and J.G. Ferrigno.
  • Long-Term Monitoring of Glaciers of North America and Northwestern Europe: USGS Open-File Report 98-31 edited by R.S. Williams, Jr., and J.G. Ferrigno.
  • Satellite Image Atlas of Glaciers of the World: USGS Fact-Sheet 009-94 by R.S. Williams, Jr., and J.G. Ferrigno.
  • Coastal-change and glaciological maps of Antarctica: U.S. Geological Survey Fact Sheet, FS-050-98, 2 p. by R.S. Williams, Jr., and J.G. Ferrigno.

Geomorphology from Space: A Global overview of Regional Landforms
This is a study of landforms and landscapes, including the description, classification, origin, development, and history of planetary surfaces. The core of the on-line book is a gallery of space imagery consisting of 237 plates, each treating some geographic region where a particular landform theme is exemplified. Commentary, photographs, locator maps, and sometimes a geologic map accompany each plate. http://daac.gsfc. nasa.gov/DAAC_DOCS/daac_ed.html

Archpub is a new moderated announcement list/discussion group aiming to provide a platform for the announcement and review of archaeological publications. To subscribe send the message: subscribe ARCHPUB to major domo@mail.serve.com. More information is available at: http://www.serve.com./archaeology/archpub/index.html

Zooarchaeology (http://borealis.lib.uconn.edu/zhp/) is the analysis of animal remains (e.g., bone, shell) from archaeological sites to reconstruct the cultural lifeways of people and the interrelationships between people, animals, and the environment. This web site is intended to assist people interested in this field of study.
Calcified Biominerals in Earth-Science Research

In addition to their importance as sedimentary contributors, biologically produced minerals now appear as a major source of environmental information. The main goal of the group is to explore the different domains of earth sciences in which calcifiedbiominerals are involved, and to investigate the research fields that can benefit from these recent results.

Center for the Study of the First Americans is located at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Affiliated with the Department of Anthropology, CSFA is dedicated to the promotion of interdisciplinary scholarly dialogue and research and the stimulation of public interest on the subject of the peopling of the Americas. See: http://www.peak.org/csfa/csfa.html

The Tri-City Herald Web page provides a good starting point for those interested in following some (but not all) of the history of the "Kennewick Man" discovery. That discovery, of a nearly complete, Early Holocene human skeleton just outside Kennewick, Washington, has prompted considerable controversy over the biological affinity of ancestral and modern Native Americans, and a debate over laws governing the repatriation of human remains. This web site provides links to news stories, photos, reports and text of legal briefs in the lawsuit filed in the case. See: http://www.tri-cityherald.com/bones/

Data-Handling Methods
The web site of the INQUA Sub-Commission on Data-Handling Methods has moved to Uppsala, Sweden: http://www.kv.geo.uu.se/inqua All features of the site, including newsletters, file boutique, address and searching lists are as they were at the former address. Many of the features of the Cambridge Palaeoecology and Evolutionary Biology web site will move to the Uppsala Quaternary Geology site at http://www. kv.geo.uu.se/ This includes the British Isles pollen catalogue and software and documentation for psimpoll.
