The Quaternary Times Memorial Announcement Sheldon Judson Sheldon Judson, a Princeton University geosciences professor who researched Stone Age archaeological sites in North America and Europe, died May 20th of pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old. Judson was the author of several geo-archaeological reports and co-wrote textbooks and workbooks used in introductory geology classes. Among his research topics were ancient North American Indian sites and Frances rock shelters of the late Paleolithic period, or Old Stone Age era circa 10,000 B.C. Judsons best-known textbook is "Physical Geology," co-written with L.Don Leet in 1954 and with Marvin E. Kauffman in revised editions. The first field conference of the Midwest Friends of the Pleistocene was organized and led by Sheldon Judson, in 1950, on eastern Wisconsin. Judson was a member of the Princeton faculty from 1955 to 1982. Between 1970 and 1982, he was the chairman of its geosciences department. He held the rank of dean when he served as chairman of the University Research Board in the 1970s. |
